Song of The Week

Belle and Sebastian’s Funny Little Frog has been one of my favorite songs ever since it came out. Stuart Murdoch always has this thing for a classic 50’s/60’s smooth and fun pop sound and that song sort of hits the nail on the head for a catchy song.
So anyway, Stuart’s new project God Help The Girl, which is this compilation of girls singing new songs and some previously released Belle and Sebastian songs, has been topped off with a new version of Funny Little Frog. And it is excellent.

Two stones One bird

I can not believe I never realised the complete amazing wonder that is a large A Cappella group. The way I came to this realisation is really crazy, actually. One of the songs I was going to put for Song of the Week was You Don’t Know Me by Ben Folds featuring Regina Spektor, so I was looking it up on youtube to put the video up. I found a video of the song as it was done by an A Cappella group from none other then the University of Virginia, which is not a long trip from where I live. And they are ridiculously awesome. So then I saw another version of that song done by an A Cappella group called Green Envy from another school,Tulane University. All the songs from both groups are basically mind blowing.
So this is You Don’t Know Me from UVA’s:

I think UVA’s has great female singers, but Green Envy definitely chose the perfect singer for Ben Fold’s part:

Wowza.

Breathe Water!

I am aware it is not Thursday, but oh well. I don’t think I’ll be able to hold to the “every Thursday” thing for awhile. Anyway, i’m only letting one person down (sorry Vanessa.)
So here it is! This is actually from the late 90s. It’s a really gorgeous song. Also, the concept of the song and the album art seem to match in a really awesome way. It’s just great all around. The album is called “Love in the Time of Science” which is also great. (Too bad the rest of the album is not really that good.)
